Endoscopy, colonoscopy and complex gut disorders
Dr Jeffrey Tu is a Sydney gastroenterologist and hepatologist (FRACP). He provides audited colonoscopy and gastroscopy, and assesses persistent bloating, constipation and diarrhoea using motility and microbiome testing.

02 - QUALITY
Safe, affordable quality-assessed endoscopy
Dr Jeffrey Tu is recertified in colonoscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He audits his own results and shares them here.

03 CONSTIPATION AND BLOATING
Difficult constipation and bloating
Dr Tu assesses patients whose colonoscopy is normal but whose bloating, constipation or diarrhoea has not responded to laxatives or a low-FODMAP diet. He reads motility and microbiome results together so treatment is targeted.
Motility testing
Anorectal manometry and intestinal transit studies, interpreted by Dr Tu.
Breath Testing
Arrange and Interpret hydrogen and methane breath testing for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
Microbiome analysis
Stool-based testing used alongside symptoms and motility findings.
Targeted treatment
Prokinetic or secretagogue medicines, antimicrobial therapy, diet and pelvic floor referral, chosen from the results.
04 · CHRONIC GUT INFECTIONS
Chronic gut infections
Dr Tu assesses infections that persist after standard treatment.
Refractory Helicobacter pylori
Susceptibility-guided and vonoprazan-based regimens for infection that has not cleared. Dr Tu is a co-author of a 2021 exploratory study in Helicobacter (PubMed 34247436).
Symptomatic parasites
Blastocystis, Dientamoeba fragilis and Giardia are assessed where they are linked to ongoing symptoms. Evidence for treating some of these organisms is limited, and treatment is individualised.
05 F M T
Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT)
FMT is an established treatment for recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection. For other conditions it remains investigational, and Dr Tu discusses the evidence with each patient before considering it.
Dr Tu trained in FMT under the late Professor Thomas Borody at the Centre for Digestive Diseases, Five Dock, where he is a Visiting Medical Officer. Where eligible, FMT material is sourced from CDD biome bank, which holds TGA approval
